closet full of clothes with nothing to wear

I have fallen prey to the age old problem that has plagued women for years; a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear.  On a day to day basis, I have an adequate amount of clothing, it's the "going out" clothes I'm having an issue with.  For the past few weekends, getting dressed up for a night on the town has been a serious challenge.  While I'm not short on basics, I am in desperate need of pieces that will make my outfits pop.  Last Saturday, I sported a cream sundress and a navy cardigan, both courtesy of J. Crew.  While this outfit was stylish enough, I looked more fit for chapter meeting or even church (gasp!).  For a fun night out, I need some more edge.  That being said, I don't want to look scandalous either.  Finding the perfect blend of classy and sexy is my latest fashion challenge.  Suggestions?

you can't teach an old dog new tricks

I'm still wearing the same things I wore at age five.  Well, more or less.  While the actual clothing items have obviously changed, I have had basically the same style my entire life.  From a very young age I always wanted to pick out my own outfits.  Some of my best looks featured a black pleather jacket from The Gap.  Obviously, I was very cutting edge.  Truly though, my style has stayed consistently classic-with-a-twist.  On my first day of kindergarten, I rocked a white Ralph Lauren polo with a navy blue kilt.  Yes, a kilt.  Other signature Emily Grant pieces include a hot pink headband with a larger than life bow, dark wash Gap jeans with leopard-print cuffs, and of course my red leather Dorothy flats.  While today, I skip the kilts for pencil skirts, and have moved on from leopard-cuffed-jeans, I haven't wandered too far from my style roots.  Today, I'll throw on a white Ralph Lauren oxford, a pair of dark wash Hudson's and some leopard ballet flats.  I still gravitate towards classic basics with some cheeky accessories thrown in.  I have yet to experience a "what was I thinking?! moment" because I've always had the same narrow mindset when it comes to what I wear.  Maybe I'm the only one?  Hey, it's worked for me this long.
